You Think You Really Know Me: The Gary Wilson Story

By Cameron Reed

Tuesday September 9, 2008

You Think You Really Know Me is one of my favourite all time albums. The Gary Wilson enigma is really intriguing: He dropped a brilliant lo-fi noise/funk/lounge album in the late ’70s, unsuccessfully worked to find success and then exiled himself from music and any sort of limelight in the early-80s. He began to gain a bit of a cult status in the late-90s at the rediscovery of his seminal album (with the help of Beck) and finally returned to the stage at the turn of the century. Stones Throw released Mary Had Brown Hair in 2003 featuring all new material.
