ONLY PICK: Eternity Man
“Eternity Man” was Arthur Stace. An Australian born to an early to a life of drunks and brothels he underwent a powerful Christian conversion and spent thirty odd years in Sydney scribing the word “Eternity” throughout town in chalk during the early mornings back in the 1930’s. A bit of a legend. It was his form of evangelism he said. His order came from a higher power. Okay. Powerful and emotional transformation. Check. And Julien Temple has earned our respect for his two documentaries on The Sex Pistols; the co-opted Malcolm McLaren art house mess that is
The Great Rock n Roll Swindle, which has no standard to speak of and
The Filth and the Fury which set a new one for band and music documentaries in general. With its smart and funny archival manipulation and the fact that Johnny Rotten cries in the movie when he’s talking about losing people to heroin. Awesome. And he did that Joe Strummer documentary last year. So while he has done more serious work, like
Bullet with Tupac and…
Earth Girls Are Easy , it’s…easy to see why he might choose to do a musical. Why not “Eternity Man? Loads of “Pathos Miraculous”. But bewarned. It is a musical.
