ONLY PICK: The Union:The Business Behind Getting High
The great dope scare has been going on ever since booze was made legal again, and the lovely Mary Jane has been getting a bum rap from law makers and politicians for decades. People may argue the risks and benefits of smoking a spliff, but there’s no denying that growing weed is big business. But how is it that one of B.C.‘s most lucrative industries is still illegal? I mean, if the kids are doing it… The best was when I heard the new Vancouver Police Chief explain his position on smoking marijuana, and I paraphrase:” Why would someone want to do something that would make them stupid?” Awesome. Zero understanding about the effects of the drug itself. Regardless, Brett Harvey’s documentary is a smart and intelligent look into the complicated business of growing, and gets to the grass roots of who really stands to gain from the prohibition style drug war.
