Another grim note

There won’t be a next time

On Thursday, November 23, Dave Wanger was struck by a car and killed. Dave’s influence on Vancouver/Victoria music went far beyond his own records. He struggled with addiction at times, but created countless testaments to his songwriting talent under the names M Blanket, Ache Hour Credo, and Daddy’s Hands. Rest in peace.

On another grim note: Zeppelin’s got shut down as a venue. Oh well.

It’s snowing, my little bears–time to hibernate. What will you do with yourself? Read, write, record, paint, drink, fuck? I could tell you about some really great TV programs I have been watching but now is not the time. Call me. I’ll burn you a copy. Here’s what’s happening: Kyle and Kohl (who deserve a fucking plaque) are putting on two great all-agers in the next two weeks. December 1 has They Shoot Horses, Run Chico Run, Love & Mathematics, and Sean Wesley Wood at the Ukrainian Hall and December 9 has Dandi Wind, the Doers, Cheerleader Camp, and my band at the Mt. Pleasant Community Centre.

Take the illegitimate children you’ve been neglecting. The hottest couple in music (aka I want to be the meat to this sandwich) Joanna Newsom and Bill Callahan (aka Smog) play at St. Andrew Wesley’s (aka church) on the 5th. BC’s own real life glam rock band, the Sugar Coated Killers, play Pub340 on the 7th. And–oh my god–the Croatian Cultural Centre has Trail of Dead, Blood Brothers (aka the first 1/3 of their last two records are phenomenal), and one of my favourite bands Celebration (check their old bands the Jaks and Love Life as well) on the 10th. Akron/Family play Richard’s on the 14th and Winning, Fond of Tigers, and They Shoot Horses (who are recording right now–goodie!) play the ANZA on the 15th. Keep warm with hot licks.
