Spreading mediocrity evenly It may be the rain or my seasonal depression, but I don’t want to leave my house anymore. I flaked out on Wolf Eyes to watch Lost. Sorry, it’s true. There was also the high risk that I might cut myself mid-show. I also missed what someone of no importance called the “show of the year” on Halloween with Sick Buildings and the Rita. What the fuck, right?

Why the hell am I even writing this column? As for what’s coming up: The Screaming Eagles play immaculate instrumental pop (that kind of reminds me of The Anniversary) at Pat’s on the 18th with some major players from Toronto (if such a thing exists) the Bicycles and Henri Fabergé and the Adorables. The Goodnight Loving from Milwaukee play with Vancougar and Ladies Night at Pub340 on the 20th. John Dye and Johnny Wakeham play the Marine Club on the 22nd. Ok Vancouver Ok and LSDJ play Fake Jazz on the 22nd at the Cobalt. LSDJ layers sound using 4 record players to create really fucking creepy textural soundscapes. Pink Reason comes to Vancouver via Green Bay, Wisconsin for two shows, one at the Other Space on the 22nd, and the other at Pub340 on the 23rd. They play droned-out songs that seamlessly shift between Gary Numan, the Velvet Underground and vintage punk.

Newest garage-blues sensationalists the Yesterdais plai at Pat’s with the Book of Lists on the 25th. The Internet and Teen Community noise up Zeppelin’s on the 25th and Raised by Wolves play Pat’s on the 26th. The Inhabitants bring their discordant, shape-shifting ambience to the WISE Hall on the 29th. Has anyone else noticed that SPM is now booking over half of the decent venues in the city? I guess we have to spread the mediocrity evenly. Someone stop this, seriously.
