Anal art auction action Did everyone have fun at New Music West? Yeah, that’s what I thought. I would imagine that most of the bands that participated (or even applied) are left with a hollow feeling where the $45 they spent to apply used to be.
I went to the Kids’ night at the Columbia, but mostly just because I wanted to be on Kathyisyourfriend.com. Which I was. And then I felt used and dirty.
I saw Margaret Thrasher at the Monkey Pit on April 18th. That venue is amazing! Though it was kind of scary: no ins and outs, no guestlist, no standing in front of the PA with the microphone. But the M-Thrash was super loud and… well… thrashy. That girl should be careful with her throaty scream-growls. She could end up with polyps on her vocal chords.
I totally fucked up and forgot to go to Video In for Signal and Noise 2006, but I’m going to make sure to go there for The Quick and The Dirty on May 13. It’s a benefit for a non-profit performance art/experimental music/visual art organization called The Escape Artists Society (TEAS). Ultrapuss, Coingutter, Trigger Finger, Girl #20 and Gang Bang will make noise (and art–Girl #20 will auction off the metal art objects created during her set). Butt here’s the best part: David Khang will do a performance art piece where he–oh my God–paints with the brush up his asshole! He will also auction the anal art afterward.
SickBuildings –something from the ol’ Run Down Sun –plays at Alibi Room on May 3rd with Bury Me In Eden, Nihilist Party (careful not to piss off either of these acts–it’s way easy) and Time is an Elephant.
The Parallels, the Spinoffs and Blue Grey Dots will play a lovely benefit for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on May 4th at the Media Club. Give your money to them.
And the Nerve / Vice Guide to Vancouver’s favourite, Crystal Pistal plays at the Azure on May 13–brought to you by CFOX and Rockstar Energy Drink.
