MOVIES
Alexander Nevsky is Russian film genius, Sergei Eisenstein’s first sound picture and it is a doozie. Detailing the defense of Soviet land against invading Teutonic Knights, this picture is one of cinema’s first action epics and a masterpiece by one of films first masters. It’s the one that has Nevsky’s army sneakily engaging the evil invaders in battle on a melting sheet of ice. Guess what happens. Guess who wins? Simple footnote in history, never invade Russia in winter.
7:30pm @ Pacific Cinematheque (1131 Howe st.)
