MUSIC
Hot Panda are from Edmonton and you can tell. You know how people and bands from there just kind of keep the smell on them? It’s not a bad smell, it’s just different. It’s sweeter and earthier than the sharp scent of Ontario, but the Edmonton musk seems to curdle a little in the sea air.
They play their quirky indie pop at the Lamplighter tonight with the National Shield, Jakartah, the Mark Birtles Project and Old Bridge.
There are only 10 days left until the Lamplighter, as we know it, closes for renovations. There aren’t that many places in this city, apart from the eastside dives, that still have the feel of an actual bar. Even if you have to play $8 to get in and 10 times that just to get drunk, the Lamplighter has it’s charm. Tonight seems like a good reason to remember it as it was, before it likely becomes a Irish pub.
