MUSIC
Guru’s Jazzmatazz holds a special place in the hearts of many hip-hop fans. One half of the legendary group Gang Starr, the Jazzmatazz albums jammed out on a real special mellow steez, bridging the gap between two blackest genres ever, jazz and hip-hop. They have continued to be important simply because Guru is the dude behind them. The first volume dropped all the way back in ’93, the 4th just came out in June, and each record has grown as Guru’s sensibilities have. Tonight it goes down with a full live band and the legend himself at the Commodore

FIREWORKS
Tonight also kicks off what many (including us) consider to be the best thing about this city. Nothing says “Vancouver” like a bunch of fireworks. They have an ability to transmit the joy and pleasure of sounds and the brightness of colours that awake the senses in ways that words cannot. Indeed, no author could ever write better than a firework. Not even if that author wrote the Bible. There is truly nobody on earth who can replicate their splendor, neither living nor dead. We’re never shy to trumpet our love of Vancouver, and all who know us well know that aside from pizza and cats, fireworks are totally our favourite things in the world. So when the the ‘works come to town, we get down like a clown in a gown without a frown. Snip-snap.
