ONLY PICK: Go Go Tales

From notorious cult director Abel Ferrera (King of New York, Bad Lieutenant) comes this sumptuous and bawdy comedy about a downtown Manhattan go-go club called The Paradise. In what may be his most courageous and best film ever, Tales, starring Willem DaFoe, Bob Hoskins and Only‘s favourite naughty Italian, Asia Argento, comes a comedy of errors that feels a little like an old classic by Preston Sturgess or Billy Wilder, but with a definite sexed up edge. Ray, the club’s owner, is late on his rent and is about to lose The Paradise when the landlady threatens to close the club to make room for a bed and breakfast. Adding insult to injury, the girls of the club threaten to stop stripping and his financing brother refuses to provide more money. Together he and his right hand man plan a scheme to win the lottery, and Asia Argento’s character makes out with a dog. What more do you want? Titillating and scintillating, this is what Showgirls dreamed of being but never was. Meaning it’s funny and sexy in the right ways.
