If you missed the first installment ( Nightwatch ) of the highest grossing Russian fantasy trilogy ever, go rent it and catch up. Basically, the forces of light and dark are locked in an eternal battle, but equally matched, they have agreed on a tenuous truce. The light side has a police force (Nightwatch) that keeps the dark side in check and the dark side has a police force (Daywatch) that does the same. But there is a prophecy that tells of a child that will break the stalemate and will bring about eternal glory for whichever side he chooses.

Each made for a mere $4 million, Nightwatch and Daywatch put Hollywood mega movies like The Matrix 3 ($150 million) to shame. Complex stories, cutting-edge computer effects, these movies were made for a fraction of the cost and have none of the burden of star recognition. That means you don’t have to sit through three hours of Keanu. Instead you get vampires, shape shifters, witches, beasts of all kinds and a dark fantastic story where modern day Moscow gets pummeled by magic marbles. Wicked.
