'Maverick'

By Chuck Ansbacher

Friday October 3, 2008

I think that when you use this word to describe yourself, it loses all meaning. It’s one thing when the press, your coleagues, your friends and/or the public describe you as a maverick. That’s okay with me. But it’s a really weird word to use over and over again to describe yourself. “I’m a maverick.” “We mavericks.” “We’re a couple of mavericks.” It’s like someone calling themselves a ‘hero’ over and over again, or a ‘genius’, or a ‘total hottie’, or a ‘really cool guy’. I don’t care how mavericky you actually are. When you start saying you’re a maverick over and over again, you basically cease to be one.
