Renovation of the Flack Building in Vancouver

By only

Thursday August 7, 2008

Back for a brief visit to Van last fortnight and I was shocked to see the former TC headquarters at 163 West Hastings had been completely renovated. And what a renovation.

We knew that the building had been built as a lavish headquarters for goldsmiths handling the haul from the Klondike in 1898 – our office, like every office, had a walk-in safe and there was a very Victorian panic room in the basement. But the years had been bad to the old girl and there were only four tenants (out of 20 offices) left. It had fallen to such a state that it was affordable for us to rent there.

But now it has been lovingly and sensitively restored. Not only did they recreate the old entrance arch, the stone carvers chisled in their own faces. Everything is wow.
