“Double standard!” That’s what literally nobody in the media is saying about themselves on the heels of John McCain’s (former?) top economic adviser, Phil Gramm, calling every single American in America a “whiner.” According to Mr. Gramm, take out an ‘h’ and toss another ‘n’ in there, because Americans, you’re all winners! You just maybe don’t know it because you’re too busy worrying about feeding your kids and not getting foreclosed on to be privy to the info Mr. Gramm is privy to because he does this for a living and you, fortunately, don’t. Don’t be bitter! Just get learning. Fact: America’s dominance in the world has never been stronger. No shit! Wake up Americans. Read a newspaper because there are SO MANY ways to illustrate this point it’s almost pointless! But fine. Just take America’s per capita GDP, which is $45,800 – higher than any other country of our size, or any country even close to our size. Fuck yeah! So then what is with all this recession jibber jabber? Well, stats are murky, but while the per capita GDP has continued to rise in recent years, so has the difference between the rich and the poor. Right now the top 10% of Americans hold over to 70% of the net worth. The bottom 40% holds only 6% of that same wealth. When distribution of wealth is so disproportionate, those “per capita” stats – which Mr. Gramm bases his argument on – become completely worthless. Wothless!
