NEW MOVIE MONDAYS

In a strange turn of events, only one major film is being released on DVD tomorrow. That film is Bobby; a horrible movie about an incredible tragedy. When Bobby Kennedy was assassinated at the Ambassador Hotel in 1968, Emilio Estevez was six years old. Ironically, Bobby feels like it was written and directed by a six year old, and cast by voters at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. Lindsay Lohan marries Frodo Baggins. Ashton Kutcher “plays” a “hippie.” William H. Macy cheats on Sharon Stone with Roller Girl, and gets ratted on by Christian Slater. And for what purpose? The cast is an endless stream of pointlessly recognizable faces who all lend nothing but imagined legitimacy to a very poor script and a deluded director. Emilio tries really hard to illustrate a tumultuous era dominated by racial strife, the Vietnam War and disenchanted youth, but all you wind up with is him going “I’m a political retard, I’ve done blow with a shitload of celebs, and I think the most important movie in the last 20 years is Crash.”

If we just rained on your parade because you were all excited about a politically charged film with copious celebrity appearances, try out The Last Party instead.
