New Movie Mondays

Fast Food Nation
This movie saw almost no press when it came out in theaters, and all the reviews very mediocre. But you know what? Ignore all that, because we totally dug it. Linklater did an incredible job dramatizing Eric Schlosser’s book, and even though it’s not a documentary, all the elements are there. The seedy underbelly of the fast-food world is accurately portrayed, and it’s just as scary as it was when in print. With that in mind, we wouldn’t be surprised to find out this movie was poorly marketed on purpose. There’s so much leftist sentiment packed in that it could easily be mistaken for a communist propaganda film. There are tons of celebrity cameos, which can be trying, but they’re all worth it for the best five minutes of Bruce Willis we’ve seen since Die Hard.

Let’s Go To Prison
And somehow this movie doesn’t totally suck either. Forget all you think you believe about this thing, and look who the guys behind it are. One half of Mr. Show directed it, two guys from MTV’s criminally overlooked The State wrote it, and GOB from Arrested Development stars in it. It doesn’t live up to anything that any of this team already has on their respective resumes, but it’s actually funny, and better than most of the crap we’ve had to put up with lately. (And based on a novel?!?! WTF!)

South Park: The Complete Ninth Season
We’re split down the middle on South Park. Some of us think it’s one of the best shows on TV, while others view it as thinly veiled right wing propaganda masquerading as biting liberalism (especially this guy ). Either way, its impossible to deny that with each passing year, Trey Parker and Matt Stone get better at whatever it is you think they’re doing. Season nine is up there as one of their best to date, with the “Trapped in the Closet” Tom Cruise is a gay Scientologist episode being the obvious standout. Scientology is insane.

Borat
You’ve seen it already, and so have your parents. Nothing new to say about this guy except that the packaging on the DVD is pretty smart. It looks like a total bootleg you’d buy at a flea market in the Valley. The DVD is a CD-R and everything. Pretty smart there Sacha. Pretty smart.
