Art Fag: Talk To The Hands

Talk To The Hands at Emily Carr

Friday April 20, 2007

At the helm of the approaching barrage of Emily Carr grad exhibitions, “Talk to the Hands” (opening at the Helen Pitt on Friday, April 27) features a seemingly endless lineup of almost-BFAs from the Institute, undoubtedly showcasing such a variety of works as to defy any description possible here. Go and get the spring party season started off on the right foot. Knowing Blanket’s semi-strict early evening opening policy, however, you might be advised to start your night further east on Alexander to check out one of ECI’s best-loved professors, Elizabeth McIntosh. Most recently seen gracing the posters of the VAG’s big PAINT blowout last year, her large-scale, vibrant n’ strident abstractions ignite uncharacteristic enthusiasm in even the city’s most jaded audiences. Her show “Fire at Full Moon” opens April 27 from 6-8 PM and runs until June 3. There’s also a new painting show by young Vancouverite Erin McSavaney at Atelier on South Granville, April 21-May 12. Opening reception from 2-4 PM, Saturday, April 21.
